Shotover River - Gorge Run

A slow, but beautiful start

Scouting

Guido

The first major rapid

Me just after some boogie-water

Speedy

Toni hiding

On my way into this 170 meter human made cave from the gold mining days. James already in there.

Me on the other side

An artefact from the gold mining

Modern tourism. Jetboat in the river

A cozy pub...

with tasty beer

Toni driving. Me sleeping

Jono and Toni enjoying a bath in the forest

Speedy taking a nap

Upper Shotover River

The shuttle to upper Shotover was more exciting than the river run itself

The (in)famous Skipper's road

Some Lord of the Rings shape

The car was heavily loaded with kayaks and gear, so the van needed an extra push. No safety barrier to the deep chasm off the road.

The long and windy road

The river

We even had to cross a creek on the way

This guy fell in love with me

At the get in

Guido and Speedy "the terminator"

Drifting

Whataroa River

The second river to be kayked on the West Coast was Whataroa

View from the heli

Ali and me

Heavy load

So incredible beautiful

James

James

Toni

Me

Into the gorge

Ali

A tight spot

Three options

The colour, the colour...

Me drifting in the gorge taking pictures

At the end of the gorge

Me

Mauricio and Matt

Almost at the get out

A sad picture. Mauricio in pain after he poped his shoulder. A a two-year old dream of kiwi-kayaking ruined.

Hokitika River

Waiting for the Heli...
... from out of no where!

My precious mamba

Well seated in the heli

Take off

In the air
On our way to the get in
The river emerges
Into the mountains

Incoming heli

Ready to land

A bit noisy isn't it...

Don't stand up or your head will be detached

Fresh drinkable water

Get in

A cute waterfall

Me admiring the nature

Magnificent view

Ali on her way

Jono is stylin' it

Jono ready to rescue Chris

Mao seems to philosophize

Chris

Chris and Ross

Gorgeous gorge

James in his beloved C1

More gorge

Awesome!

Into the darkness
Mari and Speedy

Rocks

Hokitika merges with another river here

Toni may look a tad more stylish than me

Happy crowd!

What a nice day!
